For many families across Birmingham, the choice isn't really between home and a care home - it's about how to keep Mum, Dad or a partner safely in the house they love. Live-in care answers that question. One carer, chosen for their skills and personality, moves in and becomes the steady pair of hands that daily life now needs.
Your carer helps with whatever matters: getting washed and dressed, cooking proper meals, remembering tablets, keeping the house in order, and simply being there - for a chat over breakfast, a trip into Sutton Park or the shops in Kings Heath, or a reassuring presence through the night.

Carers chosen for personality as well as skills
Every day looks different because it's built around you, but many of our Birmingham clients have a rhythm like this: a gentle start with help in the bathroom and a cooked breakfast; a walk, a visit to friends or a bit of gardening in the morning; lunch and a rest; then a trip to the shops, a favourite TV programme or a phone call with the grandchildren. In the evening your carer helps with tea, gets everything ready for bed and is close by overnight.
Carers take a daily break, usually of two hours, which we plan around the quieter part of your day. They also have their own bedroom, so they're rested and able to give their best.
Live-in care with Birmingham Angels starts from £1,100 a week. Your exact cost depends on the level of support, whether specialist experience such as dementia care is needed, and whether one or two carers are required. Birmingham care homes typically charge around £1,250-£1,450 a week for residential care and more for nursing care - so live-in care is often similar in cost, with the big difference that you get one-to-one support without leaving home.
Many people pay privately, but Attendance Allowance, council support from Birmingham City Council or Solihull Council, and NHS Continuing Healthcare can all help. See our guide to paying for care for the details.
